The Shrouded Walls

I enjoyed this story, even though it seems as if the author was in a hurry when she wrote the last chapter. :-D
I also liked the fact that the story takes place in the beginning of the 19th century, a period which interests me very much, and I happened to read it while I was preparing for a larp that was set in England in 1813, almost at the same time as this story.
I was afraid this would just be a silly love story, but it turned out to be quite interesting...
"Although it was a marriage of convenience, Marianne finds herself falling in love with Axel, the husband she hardly knew...
Until he takes her to Haraldsdyke, the lonely house in the middle of the Kent marshes, where the atmosphere becomes oppressive with witchcraft and murder...
How had Axel's father died?
What happened to his half-brother? - Did he really drown in the marshes?
What is the secret Axel seems determined to keep from her?
Alone, bewildered and friendless, Marianne is soon terrified for her life..."

I like this book. I like mysteries and I like stories in historical settings so it was a perfect match.

I'm sorry, I got as far as Chaper 8 (page 86), and I just gave up. Too many conversations, too many explanations, and nothing seems to happen.
A pity, because I was initially interested in the characters, and loved the setting. Maybe it's not the right time for me...
I already have Billbooks' address, so the book will soon be on its way.

Sent today to Billbooks, in Australia, who is next on line. :)
Safely here in Australia got two books on the go this will be the next
I thought this was going to be more murder mystery than period romance but as I was away sitting in front of a warm fire winter here in Australia it was a quick and easy read. Will contact the last person on the list
