I REALLY enjoyed this mystery by Greg Iles. First, I love art! Secondly, I love mysteries. Put the two together with a case of mistaken identity and a kick-tush female protagonist and you've got a winner.

From the back cover:

"They are called the "Sleeping Women," a series of unsettling paintings in which the nude female subjects appear to be not asleep, but dead. Photojournalist Jordan Glass has another reason to find the paintings disturbing: The face on one of the nudes is her own--or perhaps the face of her twin sister, who disappeared and is still missing. At the urging of the FBI, Jordan becomes both hunter and hunted in a search for the anonymous artist--an obsessed killer who seems to know more about Jordan and her family than she is prepared to accept. . ."

The book has well arrived in Germany, thanks! I am looking forward to reading it...

12.04.: Wow, I really enjoyed this thriller. Good plot, good characters, well written... It was my first book by Greg Iles, but I'll be certainly looking out for more by this author... The book will travel on to Katayoun in the next days and I'll keep my fingers crossed for its safe arrival in Iran...
Thanks, hleeann...

Journal Entry 7 by katayoun from Tehran, Tehran Iran on Sunday, May 2, 2004

Journal Entry 8 by katayoun from Tehran, Tehran Iran on Saturday, May 8, 2004
it's finished and will be mailed tomorrow.
it was an exciting thriller and you couldn't put it down, one of those that you could read in one sitting. yet i have to admit that i really didn't like the style of writing all that much and also i didn't like the main character very much. one of those people that i would not like to meet at all, don't know maybe she was too unbelievable and too one dimensional? though as i said as a thriller the book worked and you couldn't put it down. thanks hleeann for this ray.

It's here! It's next up on my TBR. Thanks so much!

Quite a page turner and Iles is a good plotter, but the ending was so improbable as to leave me flat (no spoilers here!). I was also a bit bothered that Jordan was allowed to be so involved in the investigation - yeah, because the FBI ALWAYS lets civilians go in and QUESTION SUSPECTS! =) And those civilians ALWAYS........

SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILER

...pull the true motive out of thin air when all the FBI's profilers can't manage it. OK, so I lied about the spoilers thing!

END SPOILER

Suspension of disbelief can only go so far, my friends!

That said, it was a fairly fun read.

This book came in yesterday's mail. I have several rings ahead of it but will get it moving again asap.

Journal Entry 12 by roadrunner from Spring, Texas USA on Friday, August 6, 2004
This is my first Greg Iles' book and I did enjoy it but like Grover3d I did find it pretty predictable. I had most of it figured out early on and the "twist" at the end was pretty much of a fizzle. Iles does write well though and I will be on the lookout for more books by this author. On a side note, a friend of mine met him at the Texas Book Festival last year and said he was a major babe. Just thought I would pass that on . . .

Journal Entry 13 by butlin from Hudson, New Hampshire USA on Wednesday, August 18, 2004
Received today. A few books rays in front of this one. Will get to it asap!

Just finished last night. I thought this was a good book. Have to agree with Grover3d that it was a little far-fetched, but I guess that's what you get when you read fiction - the characters can do whatever the author dreams up! Thanks to the tip from Roadrunner, I will definitely be on the lookout for any book signing by Greg! In the mail today to Mysteryfan03.

This was a good mystery. I enjoyed the story (yes, I know that it is not realistic, but I give the author some creative liscense in fiction) Thanks so much for sharing this with us!
