I got this fair-condition paperback from Gibson's, an independent bookstore in Concord NH, for a release copy.
The semi-autobiographical story, told from David's point of view, shows us his troubled childhood, his extended family (his aunt, the Peggotys, Steerforth, Mr. Dick, the Micawbers - he's collected quite a troupe), the ups and downs of his professional and romantic life... not to mention the drama of a heart-breaking betrayal, some tragic (or perhaps well-timed?) deaths, and a bit of a deus ex machina to solve the worst of his problems. Not my favorite Dickens novel - I find David a bit of a drip for most of the book {wry grin} - but worth it for the plethora of memorable secondary characters.
[There have been several film or TV versions of this story, including a 1999 version starring Daniel Radcliffe as the young David, and the 1935 version with Freddy Bartholomew as young David and W. C. Fields (perfectly cast) as Micawber. Oh, and the TV Tropes page may be of interest!]
