Received this book today. Thank you! I look forward to reading it!
This is a well-written but sad story of four unhappy people and how an "open" marriage deteriorated as it hurt those around the couple. Thanks for letting me read it. It will soon be on its way to another bcer!

Just a note to say I caught it! I'm very excited - my first catch!
I was a Margaret Atwood fan coming into this book; however, I was disappointed. This is one of her earlier works, so it's interesting to see how her style has progressed and matured, but the book itself was just not very compelling. Something about the writing made me feel the characters were all "judged" before you, the reader, had a chance to know them. They were also very one-dimensional; for the most part, they were unsympathic "types" that endeared no emotional attachment. Unless, that is, you can count disdain as an emotional attachment. It was the longest 291 pages I've read recently.
Still, please don't take this as me being ungrateful. I definitely want to read all her works and find her themes intriguing. I just felt this was a bit stilted and, possibly, dated.
Thanks for sharing it!
Oct. 15 note: Emailed perfect-circle because it's on her wish list.

I have to agree with EvaLowrain on this, it definitely was the longest 291 pages I'd read in a while. I struggled to even like any of the characters let alone care about what happened and I hated the way it jumped from character to character and through time, I struggled to keep it straight in my own head. It's easy to see how Atwood has evolved though and I am grateful to EvaLowrain for passing this on to me.
