Purchased at Miami's library book sale.
This book offers entertaining insight into the unique world of breeding and showing dogs. As casual participants, the Sterns enlisted the aid of longtime bullmastiff breeder Mimi Einstein and followed her through one year of activities, including the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club show and the Bullmastiff National Specialty. We go on the roller coaster ride of breeding and handling decisions and longstanding rivalries. Dog lovers will delight in this enchanting, behind-the-scenes peek at canine contests and the people doggedly devoted to them.

It's quite a fascinating peep into the world of dog shows. I haven't been to a dog show for a long, long while. I remember as a kid I felt that dog shows are full of snobby people who won't let me pat their dogs. What are dogs for if not for cuddling? Now I can see why they won't want someone rough up the dog's perfect coiffure.
I also learned about a few dog breeds. Like the komondor, a picture of a jumping komondor is so funny... too bad they don't make good house pets.
Anyway, this is going out as a replacement for the Wild Things bookbox, which has gone so wild we don't hear from it anymore.

Another book that looks like it will be a great read~~azuki, you have done a fabulous job of putting together a replacement box for me~~ you totally rock!
When I had tv, I would enjoy watching the final bits of the Westminster show (the only one I ever recall being broadcast), and I do know the Komodor from that. Once seen, how could anyone forget the beautiful Rasta dog? :) Even not knowing their temperament, I would never want one though~ they look like I'd spend my entire life taking care of their coat!

Well this was a fun read, thank you azuki! And a very interesting peek inside an alien world ;p From the outside at least, it really doesn't look like the dog show world is any less pompous and pretentious than the horsey world she disdained and left behind. And as evidenced by this book, it takes as much money to compete with dogs as it does with horses. LOL!
I thoroughly enjoyed this read, and given that I seem to be accumulating and reading more animal-connected books, maybe another bb will be in the offing down the road. Hopefully not going as wild as this one did.

Oh, thank heavens, here's one I did manage to journal after reading. lol As you can see, it's among those I'm checking/journalling/registering so the Wild (or primped and pampered) Things can soon be on their way. Thanks, again, azuki, for so much.
Made the final cut as I whittled down the number of books migrating in the WILD THINGS bookbox!
Pulled this from the bookbox. Looks interesting.
Couldn’t get into this. Releasing instead.
Left just inside Happy Dog in Detroit Ave. loved the hot dogs and tots!! Enjoy!
