The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
9 journalers for this copy...
"When Harold Fry leaves home one morning to post a letter, with his wife hoovering upstairs, he has no idea that he is about to walk from one end of the Country to the other. He has no hiking boots or map, let alone a compass, waterproof or mobile phone. All he knows is that he must keep walking to save someone else's life."
It took me a while to get into the book but then I really enjoyed it. Harold broke out of his life and uses the pilgrimage to reflect on his life.

Book received today. Hope to be able to start reading very soon...
A wonderful book about modern humans and a possible development within our hectic society. I wish I would have the time for a journey to search for myself before retiring... A really touching book! I liked it a lot!

an undemanding but moving read, glad I joined this bookring. I'd love to do something like that!
Have pm'd next reader for an address.
EDIT 8 MAY - so sorry to have held on the book for so long, no response from the next reader so I'll skip him/her!
EDIT AGAIN 4 JULY - aahh, I seem to have stalled this book. Apologies, entirely my fault as I've checked back and sarahmangan did send me her address, it just co-incided with a particularly busy life/work period. Will get the book on its way today.

Finished it this yesterday. I've enjoyed it. I had read that there was a big secret on GR, so I kept guessing throughout the book what the secret was. It wasn't that difficult.
I have already received motherof11's adress and so it will probably travel in the 'morn. (I've always wanted to say that.)

This ring book goes to the next in line: Askeladda.

Enjoy!
Thank you for sending, motherof11, I have looked forward to read this book! And for the Nice selfmade Card and bookmark:)
Just a note to say I'm still reading this book and it's brilliant! The more I read, the better I like it. I have been so busy and had little time to read, but at the moment this novel fills more and more of my spare time :)
I can't pass it on untill I've finished it. It's well written, it's a great story and I'm so excited to learn how everything will turn out. It's hopefull how all the main characters changes because of Harolds walk. This is indeed an unlikely pilgrimage!
Harold recives a letter from a former collauge who is ill with cancer. She has no family and she is about to die. Harold starts walking to see her befor it's too late. And during his walking, he gets the feeling that as long as he is walking towards her, she will stay alive.
And while he is walking he is meeting all kinds of people and he starts to reflect on his past, his family, his work, and he is in a way changed. His wife Maureen is also affected by his walking, she also startes to think and act in new ways. I'm really wondering how the story will end! Will Queenie still be alive when he gets there? Will he Get there? What will happen when Harold and Maureen meet again? Will they manage to talk honestly and openly with each other? And what about their son, David, what is it with him? What is changed when the story ends?
The book deserves more readers, Ill mention it on the scandinavian BC forum to see it more people would like to read it.

A great read! Thank you for hosting this ring, dschinny, I'm glad I got to read this novel.
The author says in the after-Word that she started to write the story as a radio play. She wanted to write a simple story about an ordinary man who keeps going.
At this time her father was seriously ill with cancer and went trought lot of operations. She wanted to write something life- affirming at the point where she was losing the person she most wanted to keep. She wanted to write something with her heart in it - that also would make him laugh.
After reading the novel, I can sa: she made it! This is a life-affirming story with a big heart in it!
Ready to travel on when I recive the next readers adress.

Bluezwuzl had got the book from a friend, Harold will return home, with lots of new adventures in his plastic bag.
Thank you for starting this ring, dschinny, hopefully you will rescive Harold safe and sound in a weeks time
