Phryne is not a proper lady; she does what she wants and solves the occasional murder along the way. An interesting look at Australia during the Twenties.

I picked this book up at today's wrapped book exchange at today's Calgary book crossing wrapped book exchange. It was compared to Masie Dobbs but I wasn't a big fan of the Masie Dobbs series. Based on the back of the book I suspect it's a more exciting version of the Masie I have in my mind.

Fingers crossed. Thanks for bringing this in rureading!!

This book read so much like Masie Dobbs - to the point where I wonder if one of the authors was inspired by the other. It's in the same timeframe, the two characters are similar in their intuitive detectiving-ways (if that's a word), the story builds up in the same way, and it flows in the same way as a Masie Dobbs book... but my goodness, do I ever like this Phryne Fisher!

She's like Masie with a temper, and with a bit of a James Bond/Robert Bourne mixed in. I don't know if I would read another of her books since the pacing and the flow was really hard for me to get into... but a rather fun read overall.

Will be brought to the next Calgary bookcrossing meetup and handed off to the next in line to read it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this light, period mystery. Even thought it's obviously part of a series, that story stood on its own very well.

I started watching this series on TV so thought it was an excellent book to read when you are not feeling well. Easy for me to keep track of characters I already know and I really do enjoy these stories!

I picked this up at the Bookcrossing meeting today - I've heard great things about the Phryne Fisher books and it's corresponding TV show. I'm looking forward to giving this a try :)

This book was just what the doctor ordered! It is a light and fun mystery and I really liked Phryne Fisher!
My favourite line - "She liked kitchens, as long as no one expected her to do any work."
I feel exactly the same way about kitchens ;)
This book is volume 18 in the series - If I stumble across more Phryne Fisher, I will definitely read them. I'd like to know more about Lin Chung!
Thank you for the entertaining read! I will return this to the next Calgary Bookcrossing meeting that I am able to make it to.
