I've been meaning to read some Shirley Jackson for ages, so I pounced on this when I saw it at the meetup. Thanks Ali for bringing this along.

This RABCK has been on my book wish list for what seems like forever. I've seen various film versions but have always wanted to read the book! Thank you so much shnedwards for thinking of me!
Having seen the film 'The Haunting' (although all I remember of it is Clare Bloom and the feeling the plot was little incoherent and the quality of the film transmission poor.) it's the less critically aclaimed remade 1999 version with Catherine Zeta Jones that stays in my memory more. And that version that made me want read the book and see how the classic novel differed. Reading the book some of the dialogue came back to me from the film. Which surprised me as I haven't seen it for years.
I did however find bits of the book a bit incoherent (like the first film) and the ending was a little unsatisfactory to me. Don't want to give away any spoilers. But the sense of menace created earlier in the book didn't quite continue to the end for me. It altogether felt like the sort of book that could have benefited from being longer.
I will save this for another bookcrosser who I know has this on her wish list.
