Love Margaret Atwood but haven't read this one. I own another copy of this book, which I will surely read.
Journal Entry 2 by Floribu at Roxie, Rentzelstraße in Hamburg - Rotherbaum, Hamburg Germany on Monday, December 2, 2013
Released 10 yrs ago (12/8/2013 UTC) at Roxie, Rentzelstraße in Hamburg - Rotherbaum, Hamburg Germany
WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Will be set free at the "Schrottwichtel Meeting"
Picked up at today's "Recycling-Julklapp-Brunch" at the Roxie after recommendation from Floribu. As this is the follow up to "Oryx and Crake", which I liked a lot, I took it ;-)
"The Waterless Flood - a man made plague - has ended the world. But two women have survived: Ren, a young dancer trapped where she worked, in an upmarket sex club; and Toby, who watches and waits from her rooftop garden. Is anyone else out there?"
Again a gripping story that unfolds bit by bit. This is the second part of a trilogy (Oryx & Crake, The Year of the Flood and MaddAdam). Now I need to read part three ;-)
This book will travel as a European BookRing:
1. penelopewanders (CH)
2. Lizzy-stardust (UK)
3. Silver-Greece (UK)
4. Sharlan (SE)

Journal Entry 5 by penelopewanders at Hasliberg, Bern / Berne Switzerland on Thursday, February 4, 2016
I think this is the first time I've signed up for a book by Atwood in a ring - at some point I'd read pretty much everything she'd written and owned most of the books, but there are so many other authors to read and enjoy.. The last one I read by her was The Penelopiad (and as my screen name is based on that story someone rightly thought it would be a good gift to me). Anyway, I gather this is a follow-on of Oryx and Crake which I read pretty soon after it was published. Hopefully I'll remember enough to be able to enjoy this. A fair amount on my plate, but I'll try to get to this soon. Thanks for making this available and sending.

I read Oryx and Crake a long time ago, so the characters introduced in that book were as new to me now. Atwood's writing pulls the reader in. The characters are moving and credible. I have the impression that I enjoyed reading this more than the previous one, but I suspect that it may simply be that I am far more familiar with dystopian tales now. I think at the time I had not read many and found them excessively chilling and pessimistic. (Although I was fascinated by Marge Piercy's He, She and It). Now I see the almost ironical optimism in this one. I think there is a sequel, and as this ends on something of a cliff-hanger, I hope to get a hold of that one and read it before I forget this one. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to read this as a ring. I've written for the next address.

This is now heading off our mountain, leaving the Swiss Alps and wending its way to the UK. Thanks so much for making this available.

This arrived in the post while I was on holiday in the Dominican Republic. Nothing like the arrival of a dystopian tale to brighten a dreary Manchester morning! Thanks for post it, penelopewanders and for sharing it, Floribu. I have one other book ahead of this one, which I should finish within the week. I look forward to reading this!

Wow! This took FOREVER (by which I mean nearly three weeks) to read, but it was worth the effort. As always, I was impressed with Atwood's talent as a story-teller, though I did fnd the teenage drama between Ren & Jimmy to be kind of tedious.

That was my first attempt to read Attwood and I really enjoyed it. The book is very interesting and it introduces you in a different style of writing and narration. Now I want to read the rest of them!
The book has arrived in Sweden. Very much looking forward to reading it, Atwood is one of my favourites.
Everytime I read something by Margaret Atwood I'm struck by what an amazing writer she is - brave, imaginative, funny, brutal. Not all writers can pull off a mix of first and third person narrative, along with sermons and hymns that balance perfectly on the thin line between beautiful and ridiculous.
The book now returns to dschinny, thank you for sharing it with us!
