Second in the Survivors' Club series. As with the first, the characters are so endearing that it's a true pleasure to spend time with them. This is the story of Vincent, blinded in the Peninsular wars. I am feeling quite bereft at having finished this. I'll have to plunge into another book very quickly, I think, to get over this loss. Wonderful read.

Same here - I liked the different aspect of stories (after reading so many Julia Quinn's with their happy-go-lucky folks... :-)) - even though I couldn't warm to Vincent in the beginning.
Not sure why...

Now it is on its way to Tsjara - enjoy!

Thanks very much for sending the books kiki66! (And for the yummy candy and gorgeous postcard!) Haven't read anything by this author before, but looking forward to give them a try. The books do look really nice. Thanks penelopewanders for sharing them! :)

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I really enjoyed this one as well. Kept me reading late into the night again. :p
It kind of made me think of Cinderella, with Sophia living as a poor relative with her pompous aunt and uncle. Then Vincent comes along, rich and handsome, he is quite a charming character. He offers her marriage after she saves him from her cousin, an arrangement that should benefit them both (according to him). Sophia is saved from destitution and Vincent gets some of his freedom back which he lost with his eyesight.
So the couple marries quite early on in the book, but I loved to see how they grow (towards each other as well) and settle into their new life.

Wouldn't mind reading the rest of the series if I can find them ;)
And back to Penelopewanders this one goes. Thanks so much for sharing.
Happy New Year!
