Another High School Musical book. They're kind of my guilty pleasure. and I haven't read a bad book from this series thus far, so what's to stop me from reading them all?

This one was a nice, easy, quick-read. I was engaged because the characters were nailed perfectly. They all acted just like I thought they would. Apart from Ryan, but we'll get to that...

I loved the basketball competition, the Sharpay vs. Anneclaire, and I loved how Ryan managed to realise that Anneclaire was similar to Sharpay.

The quiz master show was enthralling, and I'm glad Martha and Gabriella won. The last question was a great one. And I actually learned a few things here and there from the quiz alone.

One annoying thing was Ryan! Even though it is never specifically said in the films, or in any books, but I have always believed Ryan to be gay, because he is that sort of stereotypical character, and as soon as he became interested in a girl in this book, it practically knocked me sideways. I looked all over the internet and Disney has specifically said they have never had the opportunity to portray a gay character, as well as that, they don't want to influence children, which is fair enough, but quite a few children know from a young age what sexuality they are regardless of what is about them. I felt there was no need to turn Ryan straight in this book, and it practically infuriated me. If you can't let a character be true to himself, then how are the next generation supposed to be true to themselves. The character may well be straight, but I'm not the only one who thinks he isn't, and there's no need to flaunt a massive "I'm Straight" sign in front of us. I think it let the entire book and series down. He didn't need a love interest at all.

Overall I would normally stop reading these books, purely because of how infuriated I am with this one alone, all to do with Ryan. But I can let this slide, but only this once. I hope the next book brings something for me to enjoy more.
