From Helsinki to Bertem in 2 days?! This book really is fast! I like the cover very much, with the 'trompe l'oeil' of Lizzy and Darcy. Am a great Jane Austen-fan, so I'm looking forward to reading this. Kiitos Cairbre!

Well... I was very happy to get this book from Cairbre and the cover looks very nice. The inside... While reading it, I didn't have the feeling that it was Darcy speaking. in fact, he didn't sound like Darcy at all and used words I've never seen in any Jane Austen book (like the irritatingly often repeated "Methinks"). "Darcy's" descriptions of the other characters, Elizabeth, Bingley, Jane, Georgiana, were strange too. And I am sure Darcy would never have called Jane "Miss Jane" after marriage. She was never Miss Jane before to begin with. But that's only one example of the mistakes the book abounds in. The first one is: Henry??? HENRY Fitzwilliam Darcy? Huh??? While reading I had the growing feeling that this book was written by an exalted American lady who had seen the Pride & Prejudice-A&E version, had fallen in love with Colin Firth as Darcy and had decided to do something with it, without reading the book or gaining more in-depth knowledge about Darcy or Jane Austen's time. When I reached the back cover, this feeling was somehow confirmed by the information about the author: Marjorie Fasman is a native Californian who has lived most of her life in Los Angeles. The daughter of a prominent motion picture producer, she grew up observing the Golden Age of Hollywood at close range. She wrote movies, married, raised a family and remarried. She says that fantasizing Fitzwilliam Darcy's Diary often was as much an investigation into her own life as it was of his. That's exactly what I expected, only the investigation into Darcy's life went no further -I think- than gazing at Colin Firth and imagining all kinds of Hollywood-things about him. No respect for the original character, language or atmosphere. Cairbre, you were very short. What did you think? I am curious about what the other people on this bookring will write about it.
