rabck from booklady331; third in the series. Mercenary Jake wants to make sure Beth is really entitled to her share of the Stockwell fortune through her late husband Eben. Beth is struggling to hold on to a Rose farm by sheer grit, after being left almost penniless by her no good husband. When "drifter" Jake shows up and offers to work for a nominal fee plus room and board, it's almost too good to be true. But she believes it....until she starts to find out otherwise....and finds out the HE'S one of the enemy camp. In the meantime, Jake has fallen in love with Beth.
