There is the undeserved rise of his rival (and owner of a one-legged dachshund), Detlev Amadeus Unterholzer; the interminable ramblings of the librarian, Herr Huber; and the condesc...

Oh, the saga of the German Professor Doktors continues...
And it's always nice to see some familiar names among the previous readers, hello yorkshire-lass and Releanna (and lukutuoli, of course)! Wishing you all a peaceful Christmas and a happy year 2015, filled with good books, good friends and - in Frasier's words - good mental health!

Just here to comment while reading: The librarian telling the story of the two Ingas is just like some of our clients when making an appointment. They begin from Adam and tell every twist and turn of their pet's life in general and health in particular and you listen and try to stay sharp as you think that all this links to the current issue - but in the end they say: "But today I'd like to make an appointment for his booster vaccination" and on a good day you feel like hitting them on the head 😈. And don't get me wrong, I do love a good story and some of our clients have become good friends of mine. Once I've been treated for a long weekend in Paris and another time I attended a birthday party in Moulin Rouge + Paris by night in a 40-year-old Renault -sight-seeing tour, so I must be doing something right ☺. That reminds me, Releanne, are you doing your homework 😊? Edit: I never get it right the first time; It's Releanna, of course. See you soooooon.

Olive oil appeared in the very last chapter. Prof. Dr. stayed true to his style to the end.
I will send this next to one of the winners of my 5-year-bookiversary on the Finnish forum. She has several McCall Smiths on her wishlist.

I did enjoy this hilarious book a lot :)

Some of my favourite lines were these:

"... it's almost always the dull and boring ones who have hidden depths." (p.78)

And when Prinzel is talking about marriage ... "I am proposing to read a bit more about it." (p49)

"And I wouldn't necessarily say that I fell. I descended rapidly. There is a distinction, you know." (p. 165)

Best one of this series so far - gently amusing, interesting. Makes me wonder if German professors are really like this :)
