Releasing Metaphorically into the Bookbox so people can see the books.

Put into The Medicine Chest Bookbox IV to look for a new reader!
The box arrived safely in today's mail (just ahead of a rainstorm, too); many thanks!
Update: I handed the box off to eponine38 on Oct. 12. Enjoy!
My choices:
(Patient bio) Where is the Mango Princess?
(Doctor bio) Another Day in the Frontal Lobe
(Case studies) The Family That Couldn't Sleep, Rabid
(Fiction) Medicus, Still Alice
My additions:
(Patient bio)
With the Light: Raising an Autistic Child, Vol. 8, actually a fictional - but very realistic - look at a family dealing with their son's autism. While this is the last of a series, the episodic nature of the chapters makes it readable on its own, and it's very good.
(Doctor bio)
Swallow: Foreign Bodies, Their Ingestion, Inspiration, and the Curious Doctor Who Extracted Them ; this is a combination of biography and set of case histories.
(Case studies)
Asleep: The Forgotten Epidemic that Remains One of Medicine's Greatest Mysteries
Death's Acre: Inside the Legendary Forensic Lab, The Body Farm
Flow: The Cultural Story of Menstruation - this one does have several chapters on the medical aspects, though it's not "case histories" proper.
(Fiction)
The Anatomist's Apprentice
The Dead Shall Not Rest

The BookBox was waiting for me when I arrived home tonight. I was excited about the books, Minerva was excited about the box, so everyone here is quite happy.
I am working on a book I want to add to the box, so it will likely stay with me for a week or so until I get it read. I have a few set aside to go in, but have selected one definite MUST HAVE/WISHLIST book and 7 possibles. My additions are at most 5, so I will have to make some tough choices, I think.
Great collection -- will edit this entry with my additions and subtractions before I send it out.
I am selecting the following:
Death's Acre
Emergence: Labeled Autistic
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
Life Worth Living.
I am contributing the following:
One Soldier's Story http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/8468714/ -- patient biography
The Biography of a Germ http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/10471469/ -- case study
Bones: A Forensic Detectives Casebook http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/12062700/ -- Cool Miscellaneous
Chromosome 6 http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/10007282/ -- Fiction/Science Fiction
Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death at a Storm-Ravaged Hospital http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/12282891/ -- Case Study

The box is here! I love this particular design of the little journals...but were you expecting people to actually write in it? It doesn't look like anyone has, yet. Maybe I'll add some more rubber stamps instead...
I'm half-way through a book that may end up in the box, so it might be a week or so before it gets back out.

Update 1/18/14: according to the USPS website, this box arrived in California 3 days after the ETA above, so it can't be blamed on the snowy weather. Go figure. Today's update says "Your item was processed through and left our SAINT PAUL, MN 55121 facility on January 18, 2014 at 5:31 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later." Monday is a Federal holiday, so I'm hoping it will get to quietorchid on Tuesday...?

Box has arrived, will go through in the next few days and pass it on. Looks like a very good selection!
Sorry one thing after another happens and I took longer than expected to get the books ready. Finally selection is made and box will be taped to be mailed next week (now I finally get my car back in good condition!)
The box arrived at my house on Saturday 5/2. I'll try to make my decisions soon, but things are a bit chaotic around here at the moment. I'll get the box back out as soon as I can.
P.S. I love these little journals; they're so perfect.
P.S. I love these little journals; they're so perfect.
Explanation for my family: what it takes to get the received book box back out of the house. (This is not necessarily the recommended order of steps.)
• Open box / find journal with BCID / acknowledge receipt (make journal entry)
• Locate / finish reading if needed / label & register books that could go into box if it hasn't already been done.
• Find replacement box.
• Decide what's going in & coming out.
• Make sure it all fits in new box; make adjustments to selections as needed; add any necessary stuffing.
• Make notes in journal about what's going in.
• Unpack box and weigh box/stuffing/contents in batches of less than 10# (weight limit of postal scale).
• Do funky math involving 10ths of ounces, but 16 ounces per pound. Grr. Write down total weight.
• Look up postage price. Write it down.
• Repack box (hopefully everything fits again). REMEMBER TO INCLUDE JOURNAL!!
• Add stuffing; seal & label box.
• Break down & recycle old box.
• Journal books put in and taken out, both here in the thread & individually.
~~~
• Verify next person's address.
• Add postage to box.
• Take to post office; journal release of box via mail, including tracking #.
As of 5/17, steps above the ~~~ have been accomplished.
CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Posting this box today.
If you aren't familiar with Bookcrossing, take a few minutes to check out this very cool site. Bookcrossers LOVE books, and more than anything, they love to read books and then set them free for other people to find and enjoy. I would love it if you would leave a journal entry -- you can say where you found the book or how you liked it when you read it. Then, when you are ready, pass it along for someone else to enjoy! Thanks and happy reading!
The Medicine Chest Bookbox arrived two days ago and I've been browsing through it ever since. I don't seem to have as many medical-ish books as I'd hoped, so I may not be able to take out everything I want....I will continue to see what I can find.
Home again!
