Arnold Spirit, Jr., lives on a reservation in the Pacific Northwest with his book-loving mom and musically-talented, alcoholic dad. Junior likes to draw cartoons, and is a good basketball player. He asks to switch to a high school off the reservation. Sometimes he has to walk to and from school, because there is no gas money.
Junior is bullied on the rez, although he does have a best friend who is a tough guy. At his new school, he is the only Indian. How can he make friends at school when he is not a rich, white kid? And is he betraying his people just by going to a different school?
This book has drawings by Ellen Forney.
It is a funny book that will make you think. I liked it a lot, and I think you will, too.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
It's Banned Books Week. I left five banned books here, some for adults, some for kids.
I wanted to read this book because it was banned, It turned out to be one of the best books I have read in a long time.
I am giving this book away as part of the following book release challenges at BookCrossing: Banned Books; Children's Lit Diversity; Never Judge a Book by Its Cover (re-do for week 34, hats).

I found this book in the Koronis Lake Little Library while on a walk along the lake. It is written for young teenagers, but has a lot to say to all ages. Much to think about. I will pass it on.
