Under the Dome
2 journalers for this copy...
What gets me about this is the obviousness of the presumption that anything by Stephen King will be a bestseller: there is no description of the story anywhere on the dust jacket other than what one might guess from the cover art. 1,074 pages, 3.75 pounds, and a $35.00 cover price, but let's jump off the cliff with Mr. King anyway. I'm not saying the man doesn't know how to tell a story, but I don't like this method of marketing.
I think this copy cost me $1.99 at Goodwill, which is more my speed for something I'm not sure I'm going to read...

Opted not to watch the TV series, and based on Mom's comments about it, I've decided to give this a miss. I'm sending it off to someone who has it on their wishlist; I'll count this release for Secretariat's 2013 Never Judge a Book By Its Cover Challenge (week 38).
The book arrived today. All I can say is (1) I am totally surprised and (2) I can't believe how BIG it is 1074 pages. WOW!!!
Thank you for thinking of me. I owe you, hyphen8.

Finally, starting this book. Trust it is good. I didn't watch the TV series.
This is small town life – under a magnifying glass. It seems to be a normal October day in Chester’s Mill, Maine when the town is suddenly forcibly seceded from the rest of the world. The Dome appears suddenly, without any fanfare or noise, but the consequences of its appearance are deadly. The citizens of The Mill are forced to come to the stark realization that they are trapped within their town. The story follows the many inhabitants of Chester’s Mill as they try to solve the mystery of the Dome.
It is a long book – over 1,000 pages! This book could have been shorter. I was anxious for the book to be done.
The main focus of this book is people – how people support, betray, ridicule, condemn, and trust other people when put under extraordinary pressure. Because of the graphic nature of some scenes and the strong language in this novel, I recommend it for mature readers.
