Wheeeee! Thank you for tagging me with this, Vekiki -- this is a classic I've been meaning to catch up with for a long time. I love imagining how many previous owners this copy has spent happy hours with; it certainly looks loved as much as always well looked-after. :)

I'm afraid this had become a bit of a Ballycumber; I started reading some time before christmas, got about half the way in, and then read the rest in fits and starts as the book emerged from and disappeared again in the bedside table pile. Fortunately, this is a very forgiving story, an at the same time so easy so follow and so delightfully nonsensical that it doesn't necessarily require you to follow all that closely, so I still had a great time with Milo's adventures behind the tollbooth.
I loved the message and most of the word play, but -as evidenced by the fact that I managed to put down the book so often- I think that the story might have greatly benefitted from being held together by a bit of a stronger plot. Still, this is a lovely book, and I'm rather tempted to keep it to reread. Also, I think the next time I'll need an alias for an online persona, I'm going to be the Count(ess) of Connotation... ;)
How about I'll just mark it as avl but won't actually release it until requested...?

This is a funny little nonsense book about a young lad called Milo who can never find anything to do, drags his heels and wastes time. Until the day a Phantom Tolbooth (purple) is delivered to his house, which he sets up in his bedroom. He then drives through in his toy car to meet Tock the guard dog and Humbug who join him for a rather mad adventure!
Terrific book, thoroughly enjoyed re-reading this!

So fun and clever! This book is a classic for good reason. Nonsense has never made as much sense as it does in the world of Juster's creation. A true gem of a book!
