I got this slightly-battered ex-library hardcover from Better World Books, after reading this History Blog article about the actual musical pig. [The article even includes a link to a sound-clip of the restored tune that the pig played!]

The story itself is told simply, from the viewpoint of the pig for a touch of whimsy. The illustrations touch on many aspects of the ship, with lavish period detail. Once the ship begins to sink, the story features scenes of the frightened passengers clustered around the lifeboats - and includes the real-life anecdote about how Edith, owner of the musical pig, refused to enter the lifeboat until a sailor tossed the pig in first. While the book acknowledges the tragedy, its focus is on survival...

My husband & I were on a trip trying to locate Titanic passengers' graves in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We stopped at Oak Grove cemetery to take pictures of the Titanic's 100th anniversary memorial. We went to get a map of the cemetery at the office and the lady there gave me the book.
Being a Titaniac (Titanic maniac), I read the book and even if there are some errors (Edith wasn't in lifeboat # 6 as drawn and the pig has black spots - the pig was given to Walter Lord and in 2012, was in an exhibition at the London Maritime Museum). I found it fun to read. I'm going to a collector's convention in Montreal Oct. 26th and I'll give the book to one of my friends (another Titaniac).
