One of the most beautiful books I've read for a long time. The story, the characters and the wonderful Alaskan mountain wilderness.
I'm organising a ring for this book. All the usual guideline apply (journaling, reading time about 4 weeks and sending to next participant). If there's a bump along the road, contact me. Enjoy the book.
Participants:
*Ftarazu, Portugal
*ruzena, Finland

Mailing the book today to Portugal. Happy reading Ftarazu!
It was on my mailbox yesterday. I am looking forward to read it!

I have really enjoyed this book. It gets into you slowly and wins you over completely.
I liked all the descriptions of the snow and snowflakes and all the love and companionship between the couple and their neighbors. It is a sweet history full of magic that takes you back to your childhood and fairy tales. And I really came to like Faina and her fox.
Thanks so much for sharing aava!
I have send this lovely book to ruzenaTuesday. I am sorry for the delay but was out of town last week. Hope you enjoy it!

The child is here. Thank you!
2012. 304 p.
The debut novel of the writer, living in Alaska herself, is based on a Russian fairy-tale but much enriched with subjects, from Alaskan nature, climate, people and habits, to family life and a love story. It is also rich in text, both humorous and deeply touching, and both realism and fantasy. And the writer has created characters that are simultaneously incredible and believable.
I read it as a story about losing something and accepting it. The ice does not break; life carries on, believe it or not. An adjoining theme was, "your children are not yours". The benevolent parents had to accept, and did accept, that the Child was distinct from them.

The book came to me as a ring book, but now aava told that I can do what I want. I am glad to keep the book moving.

What a beautiful story - I loved it. It was kind of slow and quiet, and yet I almost couldn't breathe when I waited what is going to happpen next.
Enjoy this lovely book!
