Enjoyable romantic comedy. I liked the characters of Nina and Alex - they are fun, if frustrating. They spend much of the first of the novel denying their attraction, especially Nina. This is not serious romance, but rather a light fluffy read and so delightful. Some of the situations are a little dated (as this was written in the mid-90s) but they are still fun.

One of my favorites so far of all the Crusie books I've read. Nina is 40, divorced, and wants a bouncy puppy, but ends up with old, smelly, depressed Fred, an ugly Bassett Hound. Alex is 30, an ER doctor being pressured by his family to "grow up" and settle on a specialty. Fred brings the two together.

This is now traveling to NancyNova with a box of romance books!

rabck from aramena; reprint of "Fred's book"; newly divorced Nina intends to get a perky puppy from the pound, and instead gets Fred, a middle-aged morose hound mix that she teaches to get to the backyard via the fire stairs. Only Fred detours into the downstairs neighbor's apartment window and that's how Nina meets 10 years younger, single ER doc, Alex. Alex is perfect for here, once she gets over the age gap.
