read and enjoyed. I can see how it must have been genre-changing when it first came out. I don't read many graphic novels and this, like most I've read, is rather lacking in terms of plot and character (compared to non-graphic novels) which i find dull - maybe the genre just isn't for me

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Thank you so much, Vekiki! Watchmen arrived just at the right moment - I'm at home with a stupid bout of pharyngitis, and I hate not being able to go out and do stuff, especially in summer. So this comes exactly right. TBR! :)
This was an amazing read! (Even the things I kept having problems with - like superheroine outfits - were addressed in the end.) I loved the complex interplay of text and image(s), the recurring, ever-shifting symbolism, and the breaks with what had hitherto been comicbook storytelling conventions. The horror comic-within-the-comic "The Black Freighter" was an additional bonus. Oh, and the ending is so much better (and darker, and more courageous and complex) than the one they chose for the film version (that I'm still having huge problems with, even though I now realise that the casting is just about perfect). But I see how this specific Armageddon would probably have been problematic to depict after 9/11.
Shall pass this on to a fellow BookCrosser. Many thanks for sharing, Vekiki!
Giving this to nephros to read (having enjoyed reading his copy of V for Vendetta). :))
