Amazon Editorial Review

Every summer the Newton family retreats to their beloved home on Nantucket for three months of sunshine, cookouts, and bonfires on the beach. But this summer will not be like any other. When Arch Newton, a prominent New York attorney, dies in a plane crash on his way home from a business trip, his beautiful widow, Beth, can barely keep things together. Above all, though, she decides that she must continue the family tradition of going to Nantucket, and at the same time fulfill a promise that Arch made before he died.

Beth invites Marcus, the son of Arch’s final and most challenging client, to spend the summer with her and her teenage twins, Winnie and Garrett, who have mixed reactions to sharing their special summer place with this stranger. Always a place of peace before, Nantucket becomes the scene of roiling emotions and turbulent passions as Marcus, Winnie, and Garrett learn about loss, first love, and betrayal. And when they stumble upon a shocking secret from Beth’s past, they must keep it from destroying the family they’ve been trying so hard to heal.

Beth and her twin teenage children return to their summer home in Nantucket just months after the unexpected death of their husband/father, Arch. Marcus, the teenage son of the woman Arch was defending from murder charges, was also invited.

This is a summer of working through grief, past lives and loves, and teenagers with raging hormones in a summer beach town.

Every year the Newton family spend the summer on Nantucket. This year is no different, however Arch, Beth's husband and Garrett & Winni's dad, is not with them. He unexpectedly passed away just four months prior. Shortly before he died, he had invited Marcus, the son of a murderer and his last client, to spend the summer with the family.

In this summer of healing, the past and present collide, secrets are revealed, and the Newton family learn how to move forward without Arch's presence.

I enjoyed this book. Each character was layered and dealt with the loss of Arch differently, taking each character on their own healing journey.

The entire Marcus line bothered me. Beth was taking her children to Nantucket to heal and to bond after the death of her husband and their father and yet she takes a teenage boy she does not know with them. Yes, her husband promised to take the boy when he was alive, but he is now dead. Beth opened up her children, especially her daughter, to a relationship that needn’t be. Beth knew she was struggling terribly yet she was not vigilant with her children. The book just didn’t sit right with me even though the writer did a beautiful job of pulling out the emotions of the characters.
