NJABBIC Week47

Picked up at the monthly York Bookcrossing meetup.

I wasn't too keen on Not Dead Enough. It's a muscular, punchy sort of mystery, but there was a sort of casual blokey misogyny that annoyed me. I felt I'd read the plot before, but done better by someone else...

Fairly ridiculous twist but I enjoyed it anyway.

There are some ugly attitudes towards women on display here - Chuggypig's description of casual, blokey misogyny is spot on - and the author doesn't seem to be very good at writing fully-formed female characters either. It bothered me more as it went along, as well as the irritating overuse of exclamation marks.

*Spoilers*
From about a third of the way in, I was expecting the revelation of a Long Lost Evil Twin plot device, and was deeply disappointed to find that I had been (mostly) right. The fact that it turned out to be a Long Lost Evil Triplet instead doesn't make the device any less clichéd and shonky.
