Read this while in Maine (which was great since half the book is set in Maine.) Beautiful story about a rider of the Orphan Trains (something I had only learned about when I read the Chaperone earlier this year) and a young foster care girl that she befriends.

The book really made me think about what it means to be "family". It also made me sad as I have small children. Imagine packing tiny children up onto a train into the unknown? Very interesting that at the end of the book, there is a passing reference to the fact that many of these "children" ended up being very happy with the way their life turned out. I so hope that is true.

A lovely read.

Thank you for sending this -- and it arrived so quickly! I look forward to reading this as I have heard friends talking about it and read reviews in my local paper (I live in the same town as the author.) I appreciate your sharing it!

I read this for my book club or otherwise might not have finished it. I was - and am - intrigued by the historical nature of the story. I was not aware of the orphan train movement and am fascinated by the stories that idea holds. But the execution felt flat. I found the device of the mirrored storylines to be too pat. Overall, I am glad to have read this to have added to my knowledge of American history but as a novel it was not the most compelling.

I will put this in a VBB or see if anyone is looking for a copy. Thanks again, jnpert, for sharing!

I read the first chapter then promptly lost this book under my bed! My husband found it for me last night and now, at 5AM i finished it.
This was a wonderful read, telling the story of a young girl who was put on an orphan train and another young lady who was put through the modern day foster care system. I throughly enjoyed it.
My thanks again to wildflower37 for sending it to me.
Going to See the sun in FL.

I just received this in the mail. Thank you so much, MyssCyn! I hope you are feeling well and got through this exceptionally bad winter as warmly as you could - perfect excuse to snuggle in with some good books, right?

I'm very interested in the whole aspect of the "orphan train," and will enjoy this book. However, it's going on a mountain of books TBR, so I don't know when I'll actually get to it. You know I'll make a journal entry and share it when I've read it! Thanks again!
