Journal Entry 1 by Zarylia from Saint Paul, Minnesota USA on Thursday, December 18, 2003
Apparently I have two....hmmm....interesting... From the back of the book: As a small boy at Joe Gargery's forge, Pip meets two people who will affect his whole life - an escaped convict he is forced to help, and the eccentric Miss Haversham, whose beautiful, cold ward Estella young Pip adores. But when a secret benefactor pays for him to go to London to become a gentleman, Pip never dreams he will meet the dreadful Magwitch again, nor just how wrong his expectations are. . . This edition has been specially abridged for Puffin Classics.

Journal Entry 5 by BC-08041015142 on Saturday, February 07, 2004
Well, I've been trying to read this for a week now, and have stuggled my way through only 170 pages of it. Much as I like the storyline of "Great Expectations" and the idea of reading Dickens, I'm afraid, like Austen novels I have tried, I just cannot get into the characters or style of writing. I think it may be a throwback to a terrible English teacher I had at school who made me loathe reading (strange I know), and reading this kind of book just brings it all back. I had hoped, being 30, I may be able to move on, but obviously not. Maybe I'll try again when I'm 40 ;-) So ... in the interests of Bookcrossing, rather than hold on to this for another month and struggle my way through it, I've decided to send it on to Emmalope unfinished. I have downloaded an e-book copy, so hopefully one day I will finish reading it. But for now it's a big "Thank You" to Zarylia for sending it to me, and I'm just sorry I couldn't get into it more. So onwards the book goes, to East Coast USA ... hopefully on Tuesday!

Journal Entry 12 by Czersk from Roscoe, Minnesota USA on Thursday, March 23, 2006
I didn't realize this was the abridged version. That's disappointing. I was hoping it was the real deal. It is a bit of a relief though. I am overwhelmed with my reading as it is, so now this means I don't have to read this one! Since I am at Zarylia's house as I write this, I think I'll just return it to her shelf and consider it a ring finished. Of course, she should journal it as well (HINT HINT). Thanks anyway!
