A friend's mom was moving to smaller lodgings and couldn't take all of her books, so she entrusted me to share them with the world. I'm going to do that. Thanks Sheila!

Interestingly someone else gave me the whole series of the Poldark books (second hand). I wonder if I should release the whole shooting match together?

I couldn't resist this book with its lovely photos of Cornwall. Part of our honeymoon was spent in Cornwall and we loved that rugged land.

I haven't read any of the Poldark books but I have seen some of the TV show. What really attracted me about this book was that my husband and I spent part of our honeymoon in Cornwall. We weren't there in the tourist season (it was December) but we enjoyed exploring Land's End and Penzance and other spots along the south coast. The pictures in this book brought back a lot of great memories of that time.

As for the text, it was less interesting to me. Graham comes across as a Conservative snob. I lost track of how many times he deplored how caravans were spoiling the countryside. He also managed to work in references to his son's public school and his club. The worst part was when he referred to people visiting them in the summer. He said the sun was so strong they turned "nigger-brown" in a few days. I realize this book was first published in 1983 but, to my recollection, even at that time the n word was frowned upon. In fact, I am surprised that the publisher allowed it through. It speaks volumes for the privileged upbringing of the author. That tainted the whole book for me but someone else might enjoy this look into the writer's life and the setting for the Poldark TV series.

Journal Entry 5 by gypsysmom at Fringe Festival in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada on Sunday, July 22, 2018

Released 5 yrs ago (7/22/2018 UTC) at Fringe Festival in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I left this book on the seat next to the John Hirsch and Tom Hendry statue in front of MTC . Usually Winnipeg BookCrossers have a Fringe Festival release party but we're not doing that this year so I thought I should leave a book anyway when I was walking to the Warehouse to get tickets for a show. Later I was in the same location and the book was gone. Hope whoever finds it enjoys the experience of finding a book and of attending the Fringe Festival. (We saw The War of 1812 which was hilariously funny. Who knew Canadian history could be so entertaining?)

When you find a BookCrossing book it is yours to do with what you like. You can read it and keep it or pass it on or if you don't think it is your kind of book pass it on to someone who might like it or release it in a spot for someone else to find like you just did. Whatever you choose it would be great if you could write a short note letting us know what new adventures the book is on.
