Journal Entry 1 by sarajenni from Burlington, Vermont USA on Thursday, December 18, 2003
I picked this up at the library sale about a month ago and have only gotten to it now that my semester is over. It is a collection of short novels by Stephen King, Robert Silverberg, Orson Scott Card, and Raymond E. Feist. I've only completed the first story, by Stephen King. It is a Dark Tower story called "The Little Sisters of Eluria." I enjoyed it though I hadn't read any Dark Tower before. I'm going to release this as a bookray when I finish. I probably get it in the mail right before or right after Christmas if I have a taker by then.

I really enjoyed this book. Obviously it took no time to fly through it. Two evenings of reading and I'm done. It feels like a sampler platter. You get to taste a little bit of these worlds that exist in other book series. You don't have to have read the series to enjoy the stories. But if you do enjoy the stories, the editor conveniently lists the other books and order of the series so you can check them out later. The only series involved that I had read was Stephen King's Dark Tower series. And although I do recall him alluding to some dark sisters that appeared to be nuns, it was nice to hear more about "The Little Sisters of Eluria." And as a result of this book, I will definitely be looking into the "Tales of Alvin Maker" by Orson Scott Card, as well as Robert Silverberg's stories of Majipoor. Mailed to appaloosatb today

Journal Entry 7 by appaloosatb from Rochester, Minnesota USA on Friday, February 20, 2004
My favorite story was The Little Sisters of Eluria. The others were good as I was reading them, but they quickly passed out of my mind so weren't really anything too special. Still, a nice book! I'll be passing this on as soon as I get the address.

Journal Entry 11 by curtis721 from Torrance, California USA on Friday, May 28, 2004
This just arrived in the mail. Very cool! I love the picture of the Dark Tower inside the front cover. I also like the bookcrossing bookplate. I'd never seen one live & up close. Maybe I need to put some of those on my birthday wish list. I'm really looking forward to reading this, at least the Dark Tower story.

I finished this and am ready to pass it along to the next person in the ring. I really enjoyed the Stephen King (Dark Tower) story. Of course I'm a big fan of his Dark Tower series. The other story that I liked was the Orson Scott Card story (Grinning Man). This will be on its way as soon as I get the address for the next in line.

My review is only for the Seventh Shrine as it was the only story I was interested in reading. While it was wonderful to follow along with Valentine again, this abbreviated novel didn't leave Silverberg much room to weave his usually complex and rich tapestry. It helped to come to this story having read the other books in the Marjipoor series to fill in the gaps. Without that prior knowledge it would have been a decent "who-done-it" but not much more.

Journal Entry 18 by chivers from Recife, Pernambuco Brazil on Saturday, January 15, 2005
i'm really sorry that i kept this book for sooo long, but i was really busy this last months (had eye surgery, college tests and my sister's new baby), but now i'm on vacation and could finally read all the bookrings that i had with me (just one to go!!!! :) ). i really enjoyed the book. didn't read any of the other books (tried to read the 1st in the dark tower series but didn't like at the time, and have 2 and 3 majipoor books but didn't have time to read them), but i think it was a good way to be introduced to stories (i'm going to give another chance to the dark tower book... even bought it translated to portuguese!!!). thanks for charing!!!

Journal Entry 20 by rmg from Exeter, Devon United Kingdom on Wednesday, April 27, 2005
My favourite story was "The Seventh Shrine", but then I'm quite keen on Robert Silverberg's work, generally and I've read some of the other Majipoor books. I think I agree with previous comments that this might have worked better as a full time novel. The Stephen King story didn't have any dramatic twists to it, but was good entertainment. King always delivers competent story-telling with relatively few cringes. I didn't really like the other 2 stories at all, especially the one by Raymond Feist. It was typical, cliched, map-at-the-front, tolkien-lite wankery. Still, at least now I won't buy any of the Riftwar Saga, cos I know they'll annoy me, so something positive has come out of it! This book is now ready to be posted to Mylene.

Good thing I was the last one on this book ray. It took me this long to get around to reading it. I loved 'The Little Sisters of Eluria'. But I'm not going to read the rest, so I'll now mark this book as Available.
