CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I put aside this book for you ages ago after seeing it on your wishlist. In the end I didn't have time to read it before sending it. I've read two of Tsukiyama's book and I did like them (especially "The Samurai's Garden ") and I hope you'll like this one :)

Thank you so much! It's a nice surprise to get such a big package from you! I've read a few of her books and enjoy them too and I'm sure this one will be good.

At 38, Hana Murayama is dying of Werner's syndrome, a genetic defect that causes premature aging, making her look and feel like an eighty-year-old.Cate, her mother, is caring for her while struggling with her grief at losing her husband, Max, and with the knowledge that Hana's disease is getting worse by the day. Their quiet life is disturbed when Hana's best friend, Laura, decides to visit with her teenaged daughters, despite Hana's protest.

Dreaming Water is about a mother's courage, a daughter's strength, and a friend's love. It is about the importance of human dignity and the importance of all the small moments that create a life worth living.

Werner's syndrome is a gentler kind of progeria, where the syndrome does not show its ugly face until puberty, so Hana was able to enjoy her childhood, have dates and attend college, at least with some form of normalcy.

This novel explores the inner worlds of Hana; her mother Cate, who lost her husband and will soon lose her only daughter too; Laura, Hana's childhood whom she hasn't seen in many years; Josephine, the quiet teenage daughter of Laura who was dragged by her mother to see Hana.

There is sadness and sickness permeating the pages, and death is always lurking around the next page, but there is also a lot of love, courage and grace. Tsukiyama's writing, as always, is simple and easy reading but with elegance and depth.

I had a hard time getting into this book. It started out slow. Probably about halfway through it began to interest me and keep me reading games
