This edition is beautifully illustrated, but somehow a bit too prosaic for me. The other mother is scarier in my head and on the movie screen, and the whimsy of the story got rather submerged in the everyday reality of the images on the page.

Still, Gaiman's story hasn't lost its appeal for me.

Here's another copy on my shelf.

I'd seen the 2009 film but hadn't read the book, so I'm glad to have a crack at this adaptation. (I adore P. Craig Russell's artwork, so perhaps I'll like this better than hyphen8 did!)

Later: While I did like Russell's illustrations more than the grotesqueries of the film, I admit that they resulted in a less-scary story - though the understated weirdness of this version had its own creepily effective moments. (And I loved all of the cat's scenes!) Coraline seemed less of a child-with-too-busy-parents here and more a child who couldn't readily amuse herself very well, something that perhaps reduced my sympathy for her a wee bit - but some of the lines of dialogue here were priceless, and overall I enjoyed the story.

Picked it up from Brew'd Awakening in Lowell, MA was just sitting on the bookshelf there. I loved other graphic novels I've read, and I've read the book and seen the movie, so i was interested to check out this version of the story. :) will update once I get a chance to read it.
