This is a story of a woman raised in Leningrad Russia, during the reign of Stalin and the horrors of the German invasion of her country. She married an American soldier and moves to Washington in the United State. She has told her children fairy tales all through their early years. As her second husband is dying, he gets her to promise that she will tell the truth behind the stories to its end. It is her story as told to her daughters. Very sad, shocking, fascinating, a true love story. A beautiful ending.
Releasing to NancyNova as a WL tag.. Enjoy!
Thanks for wanting this book! I hope you'll make a brief journal entry so all the previous and future readers can track this book's journey. Thanks, and Happy Book Crossing! :)

Thank you! Adding to the shorter TBR stash & postponing the read until the new year, so it's counts in the Mt TBR challenge.
This one is the book club read this month. Another TLC member will also read it, but she doesn't want anything to do with a computer, so will not get her j/e
rabck from love2cook; disappointing. Book was good, but could have been better. Mom lived through the siege on Leningrad during WWII, a location that I didn't know about. She's always been cold to her two daughters, who struggle with relationship problems of their own. Mom finally tells them the story of her time in Leningrad through a series of fairy tales. Ending was way too trite - author could have done better by leaving some loose ends.
Interesting that many of the book club folks also thought the author should have written Leningrad differently.
Will rabck it forward via a wishlist
