Bought this for myself from Barcelona last week :) TBR.

From the back cover:

"Single, stressed, and living amid the hustle and hurry of modern Hong Kong, Polly Evans had a vision: of mountains and orange groves, matadors and promenades–and of a glorious, hassle-free journey across Spain by bicycle. But like any decent dream, Polly’s came with its own reality: of thighs screaming with pain and goats trying to derail her, of strange local delicacies and overzealous suitors. In fact, like any great traveler, Polly had bitten off more than she could chew–and would delight in every last taste of it.

Exploring the country that gave the world flamenco, chocolate, sherry, Franco, and Picasso, Polly takes us from the towering Pyrenees to the vineyards of Jerez de la Frontera, spinning tales of conquistadors and kings, vibrant history and mouthwatering cuisine. In the end, this hilarious, irreverent, always engaging memoir of a journey on two wheels unveils a lot about one modern woman, even more about an utterly fascinating nation, and countless reasons why it’s better when you do it on a bike."

This was a hilarious book to read, although if I travelled across Spain it certainly wouldn't be on two wheels - I don't like cycling that much! This book was much more than a travel book, I learned much about the Spanish history and culture as well.
This book seems to be on several wish lists, so let's make it move...

What a wonderful surprise, thank you so much lukutuoli. I have heard praise about travel books by Evans, but have not dared to add them all to my wish list. This one was there inspired by my journeys in Spain, nice to be able to return there now on the pages of this book.

Thanks again, I will make sure this finds its way to other wishers , too.

This book sure looks very delicious and mostly the text proved to be that, too. With her described poor biking experience her journey seemed pretty adventurous to me. And as the journey progressed I ended up wondering about the accuracy of her map reading skills :).

Some of the historical descriptions were perhaps a tad too long taking away from the actual excitement of the present journey. The historical background descriptions of the phenomenons in Spanish culture are surely useful for people totally foreign to Spain, but I felt they were a bit too abundant here. The village life and the encounters with locals, the views, smells and the tastes are often more fascinating. Perhaps I expected even more of those.

I enjoyed the bits from the many same places I visited myself on my Catalonian road trip a few years ago. I agreed with Polly's views on Cadaqués but did not see a point in her bashing of La Seu d'Urgell.

Many thanks lukutuoli, this book now travels to fellow travel-loving bookcrossers in Turku.

This one's a nice and light travel book, story flows easily and a cycling trip around Spain is definitely something I'd love to do some day (probably won't, though... not the kind of a trip one wants to attempt with an old 3-geared Helkama bike) so I enjoyed reading about it. Though it got a bit dull how it constantly seemed to surprise this woman that biking actually makes you tired, and OMG can result to sore legs & butt. Somehow I believe it's pretty obvious for most readers so not really something you need to mention ten times in every chapter...
