On my TBR pile.
From amazon.com:
In the troubled years following the Civil War, the spirit of a murdered child haunts the Ohio home of a former slave. This angry, destructive ghost breaks mirrors, leaves its fingerprints in cake icing, and generally makes life difficult for Sethe and her family; nevertheless, the woman finds the haunting oddly comforting for the spirit is that of her own dead baby, never named, thought of only as Beloved.

Received from jenvince in the mail 5/10/04 Thanks
Got through the first 60 excellent pages and discovered my husband has a copy but I finished it anyway.
Very powerful, moving story that makes you feel the effect of the awful things people did and still do to each other. Very disturbing story especially in light of the recent events in Iraq. Morrison's lyric gift of story telling is ever current and meaningful.
I am sending this on to florafloraflora 5/25/04.

I've really been looking forward to rereading Beloved. I read it once back in high school or college, but I didn't really get it then. Thank you, jenvince, for this ring. As soon as I finish the book I'm reading now I'll start on this one.
I'm afraid I won't be able to get to this book any time soon, and I hate to hold it up any longer. Thanks for understanding, jenvince. I found a copy on BookRelay and I will try to journal here once I have read it. I've PM'ed Brujula and will send the book out to her as soon as I get an address.
UPDATE June 22: Mailed out today to Brujula in France.

I wasn't really sure I wanted to read this book, or that I would read it entirely, but I felt I had to.
And now I'm glad I tried hard to get into it.
It's a very sad, hard story, that makes you travel back and forth in the lives of its characters. In the beginning you're in the dark, the story is hard to understand. And then little by little the picture gets clearer, and you understand many things. But the hardest parts are left unsaid, and imagining them is even worse than reading about them.
The writing in itself is not always easy to understand (at least for someone not-english!)
Thank you very much for organising this ring, jenvince. This is a very good book, although you don't really feel well when you finish reading it.
(oh, forgot to mention... I was a little annoyed by the red underlining of many lines in a few pages... but it's just a few pages, so it's ok!)
Sending it to Banshee tomorrow!

It took me a long time to read this book, but I liked it so much. Beautiful and strong women, a charming story.
"Your love is too thick" he said.
"Too thick?" she said. "Love is or ain't. Thin love ain't love at all."
The book is leaving to Jenvince in a few days.

Hooray! Another bookring that has made it safely home! Thank you to everyone for participating. I look forward to reading this book.
Am sending to petsnpeople as a RABCK.
Thank you for this RABCK. I will read and release.

Thanks for sharing this copy. My students will undoubtedly find Morrison's fiction intriguing.
