Pride, Prejudice And Jasmin Field
2 journalers for this copy...
When my friend was clearing out an old storeroom at her workplace, she found a huge number of books tucked away out of sight. Rather than see them thrown out, I kindly offered to adopt them all for BookCrossing.
I can't make up my mind whether this is a really clever retelling of 'Pride & Prejudice' or whether the author has just been a bit lazy and basically copied it.
The general story is that Jasmin gets the part of Lizzie Bennett in a play of the book. Her director is an arrogant, rude man who looks down on them all, while being very handsome too. There is fellow actor that she finds annoying, but who constantly flirts with her, and one that she flirts with, but show hates the director. There's trouble with her best friend, one of her sisters falls for a man who is warned off her, and another has an affair with someone totally unsuitable!
So, despite all this going on and Jasmin actually acting in the play, only once does she seem to realise her life is the same as the novel - which struck me as a bit odd. But the book is well written and funny in places, even though you kind of know how it will end up. And it was interesting to see how the author had brought such well loved characters into the current century.
