Flu: The Story of the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918 and the Search for the Virus That Caused It

The best book on the 1918 flu epidemic. There is a reason that the death of one soldier in the 1970s from swine flu caused a stampede for a vaccine. And yet, when last summer, 25% of swine brought to the Minnesota State Fair tested positive for a flu that could (and did) jump to humans, and the state epidemiologist said close the barn, no one did anything, and no one cared. Weird. Find out the stakes for yourself in this well written history.

Made its way to Colorado in MZ's memorial bookbox --
Again with the heavy books -- and although I did enjoy Hot Zone (an ebola book) I don't think I want to read about the Flu right now (plus I am putting aside a stack for the maybes and it is getting pretty large :-)
