When dr Alfred Jones is asked to create a salmon river in Yemen he's first reaction is to decline and label the project impossible. The project however catches the eye of some politicians and his boss and before long, he is forced to take on the project. When he is introduced to the visioner behind the project, an eccentric sheikh, and his attractive assistant Heather, he slowly warms up to the idea.
Relatively light, mostly up beat, somewhat absurd and very enjoyable story.
But how expencive is living in London, this couple earns £7333 a month after taxes, mortgage is £3111 and they can't afford kids! Wow!

A book about salmon fishing and politics, with bits of regular marital problems thrown in - not the easiest combination for an interesting read, but somehow Torday managed to make me want to read all of it :) However, I can't imagine how this would work as a movie... if someone brought me this novel & told me they want to make a film out of it, my reaction would probably be about the same as certain people's reaction to introducing salmon to Yemen in this book. Not convinced that even Ewan McGregor could make it worthwhile to watch!
