Amazon Editorial Review
A story of two strong-willed and passionate women who are compelled to unite their senses and sensibilities, from the author of The Professors Wives Club.
Professor Diana Monroe is a highly respected scholar of Sylvia Plath. Serious and aloof, she steadfastly keeps her mind on track. Professor Rachel Grey is young and impulsive, with a penchant for teaching relevant contemporary women's stories like Bridget Jones Diary and The Devil Wears Prada, and for wearing her heart on her sleeve.
The two conflicting personalities meet head-to-heart when Carson McEvoy, a handsome and brilliant professor visiting from Harvard, sets his eyes on both women and creates even more tension between them. Now Diana and Rachel are slated to accompany an undergraduate trip to London, where an almost life-threatening experience with a student celebrity will force them to change their minds and heal their hearts together.

Hmm... sort of a difficult book to rate, but I settled on 7 stars. I did enjoy it, to a point, but it was somewhat different from what I was expecting and a bit uneven. I was hoping for something slightly more serious -- this was rather light and seemed to have a bit of an identity crisis. It would veer from substantial (and, to me, intriguing) discussions of literature and academic topics to melodramatic romance... sometimes in the span of a single page!
In short, I definitely could have done without some of the more "chick lit" elements of this book. I enjoyed the two main characters and the academic setting, but I would have liked to read mainly about the professors, their research and writing, the students, their classes, and their working relationships with one another and with other faculty members. There is plenty there for a novel without needing to bring their romantic lives into play as well.
Still, not a bad read and I would consider reading more from Joanne Rendell in the future. This was my introduction to her.
This one is ready to travel on to its next destination!
