Book write up......

Marriage can be a real killer.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

Already have plans to turn this into a bookring so looks like it will travel a bit in the near future :)

Journal Entry 7 by Blue_berry at Croydon, Greater London United Kingdom on Friday, July 5, 2013
This was an astounding read and lived up to the hype! It was really hard to put down, the story kept twisting and the characters unravelling chapter by chapter.
I also enjoyed the setting and references to the current times, media, financial crash and so on.

It took me some time to get into it... but I must admit it had me hooked until the very (and surprising) end.
It is very well written, and I like the technique of having both voices telling the same story from their different points of view.
Characters are credible, there seems to be quite a lot of research behind it.
Having said this, I enjoyed "Sharp Objects" better, and I found the end was a bit disappointing, and not really credible after everything the characters had gone through.
A real page-turner; sorry that I kept it so long, it will soon be on its way to ReetPetite.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Morally reprehensible characters, two narrators and a 'peek a boo' plot - makes for quite an interesting read. Maybe not a great book but certainly entertaining.

Off it goes to Finland on the next leg of its travels.

Gone Girl has arrived in Finland. Thank you!

Journal Entry 22 by Annimanni at Espoo, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Sunday, January 4, 2015
You know what, I wasn't quite as thrilled with this book as I hoped I would be. It's cleverly written, of course, but way too long - and too calculated as well. It's also pretty uneven – gripping at times, boring at others. So, for me, it didn't live up to the hype. Thanks for the ring, though! I'm glad I got to read it anyway to know what all the talk was about :)

I'll now contact the next reader to get their address.
