This book was bought today at the 5th Avenue in New York City , I have just started to read it
hooray! Dear Karpow brought this novel from his New York trip and fulfilled a wish from my wishlist ^____^
"At the turn of the century, Nathan Walker comes to New York City to take the most dangerous job in the country. A sandhog, he burrows beneath the East River, digging the tunnel that will carry trains from Brooklyn to Manhattan. In the bowels of the riverbed, the sandhogs--black, white, Irish, Italian--dig together, the darkness erasing all differences. Above ground, though, the men keep their distance until a spectacular accident welds a bond between Walker and his fellow sandhogs that will both bless and curse three generations." (from goodreads)
I'll have to read it again to write an adequate review for this impressing novel. But for now I'd like to loan it to a friend who is railway stories collector.
Here is an interesting interview with McCann.

Wie immer an einem Bookcrossing-Treffen in Zürich wurde mir ein Buch empfohlen. Ich bin gespannt.
