Probably wouldn't have given this one a second look if it hadn't been passed on to me by a friend. That's me going by the cover, as usual.

The author writes about a number of trips he's made in Afganistan, Pakistan and Nepal between 1950 and 1990, in which he never managed to get to the destination he had in mind when he set out. Understated, well-written and humourous.
