The Graveyard Book
16 journalers for this copy...
This is a wonderful story about a little boy who escapes his parents' house after the man Jack murdered his family. He ends up in a graveyard where the "people" of the graveyard protect him, adopt him and bring him up. Of course, his education is very special and one day Jack returns.

On the way to coco7 by mail :)
The book is here and is going to accompany me on vacation. Thanks a lot!
Definitely a 10 star book. Mrcoco and I read it on vacation and totally got carried away with Gaiman's excellent writing.
The Newbery Medal acceptance speech which is printed in the book is equally fascinating.
Sent on to goldenwattle on July 20th.

I needed another book to read - struggling with something really boring, which will be lucky to be read past the second chapter - and this arrived in my letterbox. I am looking forward very much to reading this, especially with the good comments. Thank you LilyKlip for starting the Bookring, and Coco7 for posting the book and the postcard.

A quick and enjoyable read. A fun book. I would have marked it higher, except the end disappointed me a little. I would have preferred if Nobody had kept his abilities and been able to visit his 'parents' and others and still see them; after all other people visit their parents. It was good though that he could now leave the graveyard and explore the world.
I am going away for a few days and will post this book on when I return. Meanwhile I have leant it to my mother - 'Needle-n-Thread' - to read while I am away. I imagine she will write a review too. The book should be posted on well before the end of the month.

This is a story about a young boy whose parents and sister were murdered. He fortunately escaped to an old graveyard where some friendly ghosts took him in and reared him. He became friendly with the ghosts and had lots of places where he could hide. They obtained food and clothing for him and he eventually went to school. However the murderer found where he was and tried to kill him also, but they met with an unfortunate end. It's quite spooky in parts.
Quite a quick read. 7 out of 10.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Since reading this book I have been looking at cemeteries differently, considering the graves, with thoughts such as, (grin), "That one would be a better home than the others; more roomy."
I was Geocaching outside a graveyard in the dark recently and a white dog stood between the cemetery entrance pillars barking at me. He appeared reluctant (luckily) to come out any further. This book came to mind. White dog...ghosts. Spooky!
I posted this book today to Alexiapapa in Greece. It's travelling seamail because that's about half the price of airmail. The last two books I sent seamail accidental went airmail, but that can't be guaranteed. Seamail takes six weeks to four months. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.

The book is finally here! Thank you so much for sending it to me! I hope I'll enjoy it as much! :)
I really liked the book and the adventurous life of Bod in the graveyard. Well to me it reminds me that in every situation we can adjust or try to do so and overcome problems.
Sent to merolia to keep the ring going!Sorry for the delay, busy period.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book -the concept, the writing, the characters, the atmosphere. Great if you're looking for something mildly spooky, supernatural but with a very human feeling. This was my second Gaiman book and I'm looking forward to more.
Still I wouldn't say it felt perfect. The idea and style suited a short story, and as such it was definately stretched. For a complete novel, it left me wanting more -more incidents and more elaboration on the characters and their supernatural nature. But that's just me being very strict!
Thank you very much for sharing, I'm waiting for an answer from the next participant in order to send it.

On its way to the next reader. I had no reply from fairy-dust, so I sent it to Cassandra2020.
Just as I was finishing the last chapter of my current bookring, I heard a thud on the doormat & found this awaiting me :-)
Thanks to LilyKlip & Meriola - for organising & posting....will be starting this very soon.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman - very good
Ok, hands up, I'm usually quite scathing about adults reading children's books. I should now admit to two exceptions: Jasper Fforde and Neil Gaiman, two of my favourite authors and therefore two authors whose children's books I have occasionally read.
This is a lovely book. Obviously written for children, each chapter stands on its own, could be a short story, and documents an adventure or occurrance in the life of Bod. (I guess this stops the 'just one more chapter, I can't sleep until I know what happens next' aspect of reading to a child at bedtime). Bod's family are all murdered in the first chapter. Somehow, the baby escapes & crawls to the nearby graveyard where the 'residents' adopt him and vow to raise him and keep him safe.
All sorts of adventures ensue. Each little story deals with a different age of Bod's life and each has its own little moral or 'point of learning' for a child, but well hidden in Gaiman's whimsical and inventive story telling.
He won both The Newberry Medal and The Carnegie Medal for this book - well deserved.

I loved this book such a easy read but a very interesting story. As usual with Neil Gaiman I liked the digs at the real world and his world within the real world scenario. PMd next participant for their address

Book has arrived safely.
A lovely book. I enjoyed Bod's story. I'm a bit disappointed that he lost all his abilities in the end. After all, although we leave childhood behind as we head into the adult world, we never lose it completely.
Thanks LilyKlip. I'll get this off to Bill shortly.
