The Vampire's Photograph (Oliver Nocturne #1)
4 journalers for this copy...
"Oliver Nocturne has a fairly typical childhood--for a vampire. But Oliver is different from those around him--his gore-loving vampire schoolmates, his macabre vampire parents, and his obnoxious older brother, Bane. That's because, unbeknownst to Oliver, he's a little more human than the rest of them. He becomes even more drawn into the human world when Emalie, a headstrong girl with a troubled past, manages to take a picture of him. Soon he is trying to uncover the truth about his origins and his special purpose in the vampire world." -- Synopsis from the back of the book
Added to the Otherworldly Bookbox, which is headed to perryfran as of 6/1/13.
This book enjoyed a brief stop in San Jose, CA before continuing its journey in the Otherworldly Bookbox!
This book came home with The Otherworldly Bookbox.
Oliver always thought he was a pretty normal vampire, maybe not as cool and creepy as his older brother, but he still had time to develop those terrorizing abilities. But a series of events that start with a human girl breaking into his house during the middle of the day make him suspect that there is something else going on. Maybe he's even a little human!
This was a fun kid's vampire book, with some age-approprate scares and the author did a great job adapting some classic tween-lit tropes to the horror setting. There's a little humor, mostly wry and sarcastic, and some solid worldbuilding elements.

This book is one of the starting volumes for Round II of The Otherworldly Bookbook
This one looked like fun, so I'm nabbing it from the bookbox.
Later: I took this book with me on a trip to Texas, to read on the way and release down there. I enjoyed the variation on the vampire-society theme - the "wait 'til you get your demon!" coming-of-age bit was especially intriguing, though as of this book it doesn't get very far. I was surprised at the very grim turn taken by the story near the end, though. Some fun bits included the idea of Santa Claus as a vampire (what with the "toys in exchange for an open invitation into everybody's houses" idea), and the way some of the vampires would run soup kitchens and other charitable organizations - so that they could help improve the quality of the blood of their human cattle!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I left the book in front of the supermarket, near a stack of bags of "deer corn" - used to draw deer in so that they can be hunted, which seemed to match the theme of the vampires tending herds of humans in the book. Hope the finder enjoys the book!
