From the book jacket:
Hang on to your hats! We’re in for some fiercely funny weather and crackling-sharp observations from Celia Rivenbark, of whom USA Today has said, "Think Dave Barry with a female point of view." With her incomparable style and sassy southern wit, you’ll hear from Celia on:

The joys of remodeling Tara
How Harry Potter bitch-slaps Nancy Drew
Britney’s To-Do list: pick okra, cover that thang up
How rugby-playing lesbians torpedoed beach day
Why French women suck at competitive eating
The truth about nature deficit disorder
The difference between cockroaches and water bugs
The beauty of Bedazzlers
And much, much more!
Whether she’s doing her taxes or extolling the virtues of Madonna’s mothering skills, Celia Rivenbark will keep you laughing until the very last page

Caught for my: Virtual Biography/Auto-Biography/Humor Bookbox.

My Review: I had to read this while it's visiting. I love this author. I loved another of her books: Bless Your Heart. She's the Laurie Notaro of the South, she writes funny essays based on her life.

Here are some of my favorite quotes:

Talking about picking out granite for her kitchen: "At that precise moment, I saw the price difference and I was the one who wanted to cry. Uba tuba was way less expensive than verde peacock because it's the most common granite. Uba tuba went to public school and felt damned lucky to graduate with at least the ability to drive a car and perhaps weld something. Verde peacock was more refined, snooty liberal arts college material, and it was going to be mine if I had to sell one of m husband's organs to buy it. Hey, it's not like he needs two kidneys, am I right?"

"But I wasn't really the kind of mom who was good at crafty stuff. Last year, when I was asked to make marshmallow 'monsters' for Halloween, they'd burned and exploded and looked just like the fat guy on Lost with chow mein noodles sticking out of his sides."

I like Rivenbark's style of Southern humor - she's a female Dave Barry/Lewis Grizzard, holding up a mirror to much of Southern life. The section on home remodeling is great - I thought I would cry I laughed so hard about her killing the wasps with Pledge (it didn't kill them but they were really shiny and mad). So much of what she says is dead on. I liked the section with examples of Customer Dis-Service. She says it's "just evidence of a growing culture of crappy behavior that hangs around like a fart in a hot shower. You can't get rid of it, and the most maddening part of it is when they act like they're doing you a favor." Rivenbark is a Southern woman - and it shows. Loved this and will be looking for more from her.

I'll probably save this one to place back in JennyC's Humor/Biography VBB
