Girl with a Pearl Earring

Received from World Book Night to pass on. Thanks
This is an excellent book based on an intriguing premise; take a famous painting and create a back story to it. It's a wonderful mix of history, art, and fiction with believable characters - I was particularly taken with Griet - and the descriptions of everyday life in Delft. It's beautifully written.

Journal Entry 3 by AnonymousFinder at North Kessock, Scotland United Kingdom on Sunday, June 9, 2013
I found this book on a bench beside the RNLI station in North Kessock on 19/05/2013. I took it home with me, to Inverness.
The book is an easy read and gives good descriptions of life in Holland at that time. Athough a work of fiction the storyline is very believable and, when looking at the painting, you can visualise the scenario actually taking place.
I am going to Mallaig this week and intend taking the book with me to leave somewhere there.
