Yet another masterpiece by this great American author!
I believe this is the twelfth book I've read by him, maybe the third of the post-Vintage ones.
It has the same surreal qualtiy that all his work does, and although none of the recurring characters from the earlier works shows up, there are references to a Kilgore Trout short story.
I've often remarked that Vonnegut is the closest thing the 20th century had to a Mark Twain - I'm not sure if the author's decision to make race a dominant factor in this was a conscious or subconscious one, but the influence is clearly there (not that this is anything like "Puddnhead Wilson", but when you read it you'll see what I mean).
