Ruth Galloway, forensic archaeologist, spends her life looking at death. But now death has found her, with the news that her long-time friend Dan Golding has been killed. Ruth's grief soon turns to suspicion when she receives a desperate letter from Dan, sent the day before he died. He had made a ground-breaking discovery - and was petrified of the consequences. Ruth is compelled to travel north to investigate further, alongside DCI Harry Nelson who is also drawn into the case. But where Ruth goes, so does her daughter, Kate. This time, the risks are even higher.

Mmmm....that's clever - according to Fantastic Fiction this book isn't out in paperback until July 18th!!

While I love a good murder, that's definitely not the main feature of this series for me. The more I read of these - & this is book 5 in the Ruth Galloway series...AND I've actually read them in order for once!- the more I want to read about the relationships between the characters. Each character connects with the others in such interesting ways, never mind the Ruth/Nelson/Michelle triangle (that woman has more forgiveness in her than most...or perhaps she's planning some dastardly revenge on Ruth lol), I'm also enjoying the Judy/Cathbad relationship which I hope we'll get a few more miles out of, & now even Nelson's mother has been thrown into the mix - maybe she'll be on the receiving end of some surprising news soon :o) Talking of which, even little Kate comes across with her own distinct little personality.

Loved it & am off to put the next instalment on my wishlist........

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Adding to KaleLewin's crime / thriller book box.

Well, i took this out of the crime bookbox as one to read. Liked the sound of the story and the cover, and thought as the author had written a series she must be pretty good.

The first section, the prologue grabbed me straightaway. However, the first chapter left me completely cold and bored. I found the writing style really lazy, with what Ruth thinks of Facebook or about what she does or doesn't say to a friend on the phone. I skipped to the final chapter and really didn't like the ending either. The Shakespeare quotation seems really out of place too.

Am going to take this to the bookshelf, hope someone can enjoy this as it seems the author has a following and this is a popular genre.
