Sarah Nickerson has it all: the high-flying career, the loving family, the second home. But does she have time to enjoy it? Too busy to pay attention, can she see what's left neglected? One fateful day, while driving to work, Sarah looks away from the road for one second too long. In the blink of an eye, her chaotic life comes to a screeching halt. In the wake of a devastating accident, its time for her to choose; what does she really want?

Yes, maybe she has it all but she still wants more. Her big house in a posh area is not big enough for a live-in nanny. Her only worry seems to be that they might have to sell their second home if her husband loses his job. Unfortunately, I found Sarah to be an incredibly hard-faced, selfish character before and after the accident which made it difficult for me to sympathise. None of the characters evoked any sense of empathy although they were a decent, hardworking American family. They were too driven, too selfish, their egos were big and their priorities were questionable. Sarah seemed more upset about not being able to wear skinny jeans and designer blouses any more, rather than not being able to read to her daughter. She comes across as incredibly self-obsessed. Her primary concern is her work - both before and after her accident. I kept waiting for her to wonder whether she would ever be well enough to be able to be a better mother to her children; but her primary concern was whether she would be able to go back to work or learn to ski.

Another wonderful novel from this author : she writes extremly right about life, feelings and families during illness. There it's a weird syndrom left neglected and a woman, mother of three which has to think about his life when she has a car crash and can't uses left hand or foot.

This was a bit of a disappointment after Still Alice. I did not like the characters, I disliked the husband. The recurring use of fancy words like latte, coffee this and that, fancy vacations, fancy jobs and fancy education annoyed me. It felt a bit like boasting and namedropping. It didn't feel realistic at all. It was all a bit shallow and there was little to no character development.
