Really nice accounting of the 1991 hurricane that struck the East Coast and cost quite a few lives. Junger does a nice job. This is a really good non-fiction book that I will always pick up at a thrift store if it is in good condition for release.

I just reread this after 15 years. It still stands up. Junger was interested in what makes people do dangerous jobs, but that story got overwhelmed by this first of many 'super storms'. In 1991, it was unprecedented, now, not so much. The story really is about doing the best you can, making your choices, and trying not be overwhelmed by circumstances beyond your control. Weather is like that, as is the Sea. Combined, the circumstances can overwhelm anyone.
