Excellent up-to-the-minute YA! First, I liked the main characters; second, the story is good; third, it has a lot to say about where our society is heading; fourth, it says it by showing us as the story unfolds, not by telling us with a baseball bat.

Amazon Editorial Review:

Individuality vs. conformity. Identity vs. access. Freedom vs. control.

The bar code tattoo.

The bar code tattoo. Everybody's getting it. It will make your life easier, they say. It will hook you in. It will become your identity.

But what if you say no? What if you don't want to become a code? For Kayla, this one choice changes everything. She becomes an outcast in her high school. Dangerous things happen to her family. There's no option but to run . . . for her life.

Indivuality vs. conformity..
Identity vs. access.
Freedom vs. control.

The bar code tattoo.

This book traveled from Utah so it could be shared at our book festival in May - thank you very much!

(Larger photo here.)

Yeah, it sounds like something I'd like - I'll try to read it before the festival. :)

Here's another copy on my BookCrossing shelf.

I agree: good stuff. I'll keep an eye out for the sequel.

The person I am now might be able to resist and not get the tattoo. The seventeen year old who went to college because she wasn't able to tell her parents she was burned out and wanted to take a break from school?? I dunno. I was raised not to make waves.

Thought provoking.
