Bertie has arrived to Finland safe and sound and is adjusting to the snow and cold - we still have both at the end of March! Thanks Chuckles!

StinaP is coming to town on Friday and has this on her wishlist, so the book jumps in front of the queue. This will be a belated birthday book.

Better start commenting while reading. I've been to Tobermory and could name a Scottish dog after it (as a register name, nobody uses that long a name for a dog in real life). However, my recent dogs have been Irish, so the breeder gave them Irish names, the first being Limerick and the current Glendalough. Which is actually why I had them; I like Limericks (and have been there) and thought it was an omen. I had also thought that if I'm ever going to have another Glen I will ask the breeder to name it Glendalough after that lovely valley in County Wicklow (where Glens come from). I hadn't told that to anyone and was not going to have two dogs at the same time, but the breeder said that she wanted to give me the granddaughter of my dog and had thought of naming her Glendalough! Another omen! When I told this to my dog's groomer, she said she has an unsold Welsh terrier pup and this litter is going to begin with S - "How do you feel about Stockholm?" 😊😊😊 (NO, I didn't take it).

This is already the second book where McCall Smith makes cheeky mockery of Ian Rankin "You can buy his books in Oxfam shops. There are loads of them there." I'm pretty sure these two gentlemen are friends and enjoy this kind of humour. Haven't read any Rankin, so I don't know if McCall Smith appears in his books. ☺.

This has been a hectic week at work, so I neither had time to read in the evenings nor to attend the meet-up. 😕
I've gotten as far as to the Man-Eaters of Tsavo, which I thought was funny. Again reading disturbed, promised to drive my nearly 90-year-old Mom to see her friends. She seldom sees them, so I'm not complaining.

McCall Smith often makes fun of title-conscious Germans (and indeed they sound very pompous with their Herr Dr. Dr. or Herr Prof.Dr.), but I found it funny when he said that in Italy you only have to wear glasses and you are called dottore. I don't know enough Italian to know if Chiarissimo really is a title, Amplissimo has to be a joke.

Finished last night. I'd like to be adopted by a wealthy elderly couple. Jeremy Irons would also do.

When I didn't finish this in time for StinaP's visit I sort of forgot the whole birthday issue. Now that I remembered it again and checked that she still has this on her wishlist - she doesn't have it. She told me she has taken out most foreign books as she prefers to read in Finnish at the moment. Her loss.
Luckily we have somebody else who wants to read this, toukokuu. Will put this on hold for her.

Her loss was my gain. Thank you for this book, I have recently read two Isabel Dalhousie mystery novels but I prefer 44 Scotland Street series. I'm really pleased to receive this copy and looking forward to meeting Bertie and others again!

I've enjoyed this stress-free read this week and the only shadow was to realize that this book will end and as I know from experience I have to take a break before grabbing a next book by this author (one of my favourites). Otherwise the magic will not work which means his books are so similar that you need that break. My husband asked me what does the title mean and I explained before reading the book that it must be literal because the boy plays the saxophone but then I realized it was describing Bertie's feelings. But in the end he grabs his saxophone too. Thank you for providing me with this mental trip to Scotland, Edinburgh. The next book of this series is on my wishlist (I just checked) so looking forward to receiving that one day. And while waiting I have books from other series's McCall has written.

PS: Did they ever make sure they named the triplets according to the first namegiving, otherwise it would make even less sense to tell the triplets their order of birth which had been possibly mixed up?

I'm sorry toukokuu, I simply forgot to write a journal telling that this book is on my book shelf now. But now I let you + others know. :) Thank you once more!
